Sometimes in life you meet someone, and you just know that you were destined to cross paths with them. That's exactly how I felt when I met Carey and Doug.
They were the very first bride and groom we booked, and having little to no actual proof that I could plan their wedding after one conversation they put all their faith in me and we set out on the adventure of planning the perfect wedding that would bring their vision to life. We were able to meet several times in DC over brunch, and I was so thrilled by their laid back nature and how they wanted lots of color in their big day!
Besides their kindness, the thing I love most about Carey and Doug is their uniqueness. We bonded over our love of cats, and I had so much fun bringing their desire of a bohemian-style wedding into reality. But even more adorable than their love for each other was their story. They met at a college radio station, both working as DJs. They found each other through their love of music, and together ventured off to live life in Washington DC.
They told of their love and travels in the CUTEST wedding favors ever, coloring books designed by their friend Jen Aranyi. Each page told a part of their life and the back page was left for guests to draw a part of the wedding and leave for the bride and groom.
The invitations were done by Striped Light and the calligraphy used for the invitations was done by their friend Katie Hudson. We incorporated music in several places, including the guestbook where we had guests write their favorite songs on a "mixed tape" and drop it into a cassette player.
The ceremony was highlighted by a painting done by a friend, Katy Smith, especially for the wedding. A stark contrast against the industrial wall of the Standard, it perfectly illuminated the room along with the floral arrangements along the aisle.
After the beautiful ceremony, guests were lead into the brightly colored reception where the assorted centerpieces of wildflowers from Colby West Designs and colored vases created the perfect backdrop for an evening of celebration.
Food was served family style so guests could get to know one another and celebrate like one big family.
The flowers on the table weren't the only gorgeous arrangements...we used vibrant blooms and plenty of color to bring out their vivid personalities.
The jewel tone color palette played out stunningly with the bridesmaid's dresses.
And the bride's vintage style dress had everyone swooning all night.
In the end it was a romantic and wonderfully fun evening, and I ended up with two amazing friends and some great memories. We couldn't have asked for a more lovely couple to work with, or a more beautiful subject to bring to life!
