There are so many incredible places to get married in the East Tennessee area, we wanted to highlight some of our favorites over the next few months and we’re kicking things off with the Standard.
The Standard in downtown Knoxville is one of our FAVORITE venues. Like, it’s basically our second home. There’s a lot of reasons for that, and we’re going to share with you just why we adore and what you need to know if you plan on having your wedding day the Standard.
Let’s start location…location, location, location! The Standard is located downtown, walking distance from Market Square, Old City, and several hotels. This means your guests can easily get to the venue, and your after party is just steps away. The parking lot across from it is free on nights and weekends, so as long as it’s not a game day or there is another event downtown, your guests should have plenty of parking. (Most of them can walk or Uber with ease, though!)
Aside from it being the perfect spot for a wedding, it’s industrial and vintage style is a blank canvas unlike any other. The concrete, exposed brick, metal, and wood make it easy to dress down for a bohemian-minimalist style or dress up in elegant metallics. It also compliments a variety of colors and looks great in all types of florals from bright arrangements to lush greenery. We’ve done everything from jewel tone palettes to blush and ivory, and it looks amazing every time.

The two rooms make it convenient to have the ceremony on one side and reception on another which means your guests don’t have to load up into cars and kill your party time by moving to a reception venue. The venue can hold up to 300 seated, but we think the ideal range is 150-175.
The rental also includes a stunning bridal suite that includes multiple photo op spots (like our favorite wall EVER) , mirrors, chairs, and great lighting as well as a grooms cave complete with leather couches, a mini-fridge, and TV.
The biggest question we get about the Standard (outside of cost, which we’ll cover in a second!) is where do you take pictures? The answer is EVERYWHERE. The Standard has gorgeous photo-ops around every corner including a teal wall, yellow doors, and a beautiful rooftop patio with draping greenery and bistro lights. The lighting is consistent and with plenty of windows in the bridal suite and skylights, there’s plenty of beautiful spots for bridal portraits and first looks.
Now for the big question, how much does the Standard wedding venue cost? Currently the price hovers around $5000 for the whole venue, which can sticker shock couples at first. But when you think of everything that is included (parking, bridal suite, grooms suite, ceremony, reception, tables, chairs, kitchen, etc.) it actually ends up being one of the most reasonably priced venues of its size in Knoxville.
What do you need to think about if you want to book the Standard? The biggest thing is wedding size and style. If your wedding party is under 80 people, the size of the rooms might swallow you up without a larger floral or decor budget. For style, if you’re looking for a super glam, white walls, chandeliers type space the grungey, industrial vibe will be tough to get rid of without some intense draping. You’ll also want to find a photographer who has worked at the Standard before, or who can scout it out ahead of time so they know exactly where they want to shoot and what time of day is best.
